I love reading. It is one of life’s pleasures, to sit down with a warm cup of tea, in a comfortable place and get immersed in a story, get transported to a different life or time, get inspired by beautiful images.
Reading books about riding, is for me a very special experience. There are so many books on the market. These are among my favorites:
THE PRINCIPLES OF RIDING:
The official instruction handbook of the German National Equestrian Federation. The German National Equestrian Federation is one of the largest in the world. Foundation was in 1905. The book has a lot of information of basic concepts and instructions for horse and rider. I consider it a little “bible” for every rider at all levels.
BASIC TRAINING OF THE YOUNG HORSE from Reiner Klimke.
This small book is a well-known classic and a worldwide bestseller. Dr. Reiner Klimke was one of the world's most successful riders and trainer. Winner of 6 Olympic gold medals in dressage, and several times World Dressage Champion. Every aspect of the education of a young horse is covered in this book. A practical step by step training guide.
CENTERED RIDING from Sally Swift.
Sally Swift is the founder of Centered Riding, which has benefitted people and horses worldwide since 1998. Centered Riding has been leading revolution in rider awareness for many years. Her methods enable horse and rider to achieve harmony and balance, and will give you the “look and feel “in the saddle. There are a lot of images in the book. You will learn techniques how to breathe, how to hold the reins and how to sit. Every horse rider should study this book.
Many years ago, I came across the most beautiful book about dressage:
DAS DRESSURPFERD/THE DRESSAGE HORSE from Harry Bold.
Harry Bold (*1930) is a German Dressage “Meister”, Olympic champion, several gold medal winners, and former coach of the German team.
The Original (coffee table sized book) was published in Germany in 1978, and was part of a series of books including “The Jumping Horse” “The Military Horse” and “The Riding Horse”
In this book, he analyzes not only the exterior look of a dressage riding horse, but also the basic principles of dressage up to advanced movements.
The layout of the book is clear, the images diagrams of the dressage movements are explained step by step and each “dream horse” of Harry Bold is specially introduced.
It is a must have for any equestrian lover.
